SB1 Stick Barometer
Cary (William) London. Born 1759-1825. Regency Stick Barometer
A good Regency stick barometer, the ogee pediment over silvered scales inscribed ‘Cary London with adjustable vernier set by an original Ivory key. The well-figured, mahogany trunk set with a removable thermometer and a turned cistern cover. The edge banded in ebony. William Cary was a famous maker of barometers and other scientific instruments and a pupil of Jesse Ramsden. His two nephews retained the name of ‘William Cary’ when they took over the business upon his death in 1825.
